I wonder what Maddie would do if 4Legs just casually walked towards the unattended vacuum? I think her story would take another tack rather quickly! Ripley's staying high off the ground, just in case.
My guys were born at my house, and I didn't even turn on the vacuum for a few weeks. They were never threatened by being sucked up into the monster.
When they were grown up, I stopped being careful to shut them in a bedroom while I vacuumed.
Immediately they became terrified, hide under the bed kittehs. Now that they're older, they walk quickly away from a moving vacuum. But no running and hiding are necessary.
Maxxine also quite bravely faces down the vacuum now, even when I'm running it. She even tries to attack the cord like it's a snake, so as to killz it. Must be Maine Coon thing, because my other kitteh Karmina and every cat I've ever had was mighty afeared of it...
My cat either goes under the bed or gets up into the window and hides behind the curtains. I just have to take the unplugged vacuum from the closet for her to flee.
I ain't afraid of no VACOOOM machine.

ReplyDeleteRipley actually will leave the room when I run the vacuum, but she won't hide in the closet in sheer terror the way Ripley does.

My AreToo is actually kind of fascinated - hangs when I vacuum, observing most carefully...

ReplyDeleteI never met a cat who didn't mind a vacuum, including my late Maine Coon, Spike. I suspect it's a high pitched frequency that hurts their ears, maybe.
