WASHINGTON, May 16 — After six weeks of combating efforts to oust him as president of the World Bank, Paul D. Wolfowitz began Wednesday to negotiate the terms under which he would resign, in return for the dropping or softening of the charge that he had engaged in misconduct, bank officials said.Yeah, I'll bet. Clearing him of wrongdoing means that he didn't violate his employment contract and then he'll be able to sue the World Bank for his big fat bonus. He's been there less than two years. Does he really think he's earned a $400,000 bonus?
Mr. Wolfowitz was said to be adamant that he be cleared of wrongdoing before he resigned, according to people familiar with his thinking.
Nice Wolfie, you're supposed to be working at an institution that deals with world poverty. And you use the opportunity to enrich yourself and your girlfriend.
It's all about the money. With these guys it's ALWAYS about the money.
I hope the World Bank tells Wolfowitz, Cheney and Chimpy to fuck off and die.

I feel like "DUH"...I have not been able to understand that part of the story until you pointed it out, 4LG - I kept thinking...why would he care about being cleared of the charges, everyone in the world knows he's a schmuck....NOW it makes sense - the $400,000 parachute.....of course! I guess he needs the money to buys him some new socks (remember the holes in his socks?) Thanks for the insight...
He also wants to be cleared to he can go on to some sort of cushy think tank or investment banking job.
He's not through cashing in.
I won't pollute the posts above, so this is pretty much EPUed, but...
WaPo is saying he resigned, effective June 30. It's pretty clear that the reason for the timing and the exhoneration is the $400K.
Just another prick amongst the prickatude that is the neocon republican party.
Oh, and I can't help but point out that coverage of Falwell has sunk like a stone. Can't think of anyone more deserving - at least of those already dead.
Of course, this is subject to change pending his resurrection. I for one am not going to hold my breath for that.
