Plushy blogging - the final session

I've been staring at my camera all week, knowing there were a few frames of Maxx still on there. I just didn't have the heart to download them before tonight.

This photo was taken on the sixth. (yes, there were originally two photos up on the post, but I felt like the second was an invasion of Maxx's privacy) I used to love how he'd catch his little tongue between his teeth like that. RIP sweet buddy.

Update: Barry mentions in comments that the comet McNaught became prominently visible about the day of Maxx's death, and that maybe the comet appeared to take him off to the stars. I only hope his spirit is somewhere where he feels safe and warm.

R.I.P lion kitty Maxx... Will miss hearing about you...

I've been thinking about Maxx and the comet in the sky right now.

As far as I can tell, the comet showed up to take Maxx somewhere better as a reward for his battle with the nasty orcses.

And the comet is leaving bad ju-ju for Dubya and his minions with the dust from its tail.

Happy Maxx, he gets a space ride to a good place long before 4LG's rocket is finished to take the rest of the orcses away.

What Barry from Alaska says.

He'll always be Happy Maxx to me, cause he created so much happiness around him.

What a tribute to Maxx that he (and you, 4LG) has touched so many of us. I read the item below and can't help thinking of the Lion King. The idea of Maxx joining the old kings in the stars appeals to me. And thanks for posting the "family" pics. I can't have a pet in my current life and appreciate very much the opportunity to share vicariously.

4LG --

I'm just catching up on my blog reading after a bit of time away on other ventures, and am so sorry to see the news about Maxx. Best wishes and condolences to you.

Yes, that's where Maxx is, looking down on you and watching over you. He's with you forever.

That sounds exactly right. And I understand you are hoping to meet a certain rescued fluff-boy over the weekend. Maxx must have recommended you very highly - what a smart puddy!

I hope so, because I miss him terribly.

Oh, Maxx!!! Even after he's gone, he drops by to spread light and love and joy. I was sitting on the verandah last night with a glass of wine, listening to Bob Marley ("Simma Down") and remembering how Maxx' fans used to whine for a daily dose of Plush and looking among the stars for a glimpse of him! Maxxie Gives The Masses A Little Tongue! I'm glad the comet came to give him a ride home. Beautiful Boy.

Tearing up again.
Thank you for these last photos of your beautiful boy.

That comet will be visible sunrise and sunset for some time and possibly a large celestial event, they don't know yet what to expect of it. A very cool coincidence for Maxx and yourself.

In other cosmic strangeness (I admit) I have a cat now who, I swear, sometimes manifests the previous pet's character (even though my last pet was another species, a collie!). Just occasionally and just convincing enough it's either her in a new life or paying a visit. Or something.

"There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy," (Hamlet)

Didn't mean to be a downer other day on Eschaton re checking out the rescue kitty. I just know of some who get a new pet too soon and for a while are sad their new pet is not the same. I'm sure it depends on the person. The time when you're ready is up to you. My aunt adopts her cats using some protective measures that the new one will be healthy--she only takes in a kitten that a veterinarian has known from its birth and certifies healthy. I've always gotten pets from shelters or off the street, though. Paid vet bills accordingly too of course. I do know people with rescue adopted pets that have turned out great.

again hugs on your recent loss

That's a wonderful thought. Maxxie is riding the skies on his own comet. I hope he shares with the other kitties that have gone before.

dear 4lg,

years ago, a close friend died suddenly, and the hospital personnel in the er were extremely hostile towards his girlfriend being allowed to say good-bye to his body, just beyond a closed curtain.

frantic with grief, she called the wisest [and oldest - in her 90s] soul in the community, to pour out her agony and ask what to do...force a confrontation?

kitty [really her name, and she adored cats, tucking their favorite treats and toys into their little shoe-box coffins whenever one "moved on"], without hesitation, replied: "my dear, just go home where your friends await to comfort you. david will follow -- his soul will go where the love is."

i bet your little starman has circled the cosmos looking for his "place," and when he spotted your breaking heart, he just knew that was where home was, his eternally safe place to curl up for his nap, little tongue peeking out as he relaxes in complete relief.

what an eloquent story, whaleshaman.

And yet, that never keeps us from keeping our hearts open for the next one that comes along, and the next, and the next. I still miss all of mine who have gone before, and their name is legion.

Thanks so much for that beautiful picture, 4LG. The boy was well cared for, always warm, comfortable, happy, and loved. Only a happy cat sleeps so soundly.

Sweet Maxxie! Little pink tongue. Great memories of this sweet little guy.

I still miss and cry over my Keiki - a Siamese who's been gone out of my life for nearly 20 years. I felt I had an extraordinary relationship with him, but now I realize, seeing how each of you has had a similar experience, that that's the nature of our sweet feline friends -- they get a hold of our hearts and don't let go. I guess I wouldn't have it any other way. Also, it makes me amazingly open to relating to other people's cats. I love seeing the pictures 4Legs has put up recently of commenters' cats.

Bandicoot is a jealous child. Seeing me sniveling over Maxx, he leapt up on the laptop and miraculously moved to the shot of Magoo. He is now licking and nibbling my fingers as I try to type.

I think I've convinced him that Maxx is off riding a meteor, and he has nothing to fear. I will be watching for Maxx' meteor in the night sky this weekend.

We have a really super shelter here in Maine called "Homeless Animal Rescue Team."
http://www.hartofme.com
I work a lot with them, spaying and neutering their kitties at cost. Is it OK with you if I make a donation in Maxx's name? Or is there another shelter you would prefer?

4LG, spayvet beat me to it - I was just about to ask you if I could send a donation in memory of Maxxie to either of my local no-kill shelter, or Best Friends, which takes in all the beasties that can't find a home. Many thanks.

Thank you for sharing Maxx with us. I go to his picture a couple times a day, just to say hello. What a wonderful, lucky boy he was to have you as his caregiver. How lucky you were to have known him. He will always be a star in the sky.

Yes, feel free to make a contribution in Maxx's name. Or, make a contribution to a university that is doing research in feline cancer research.

It's a lovely tribute, and I thank you.
