I think I saw those light trails in about 1972. Pharmaceuticals were involved.flory
It doesn't look like that in the backyard 'scope! The Trifid in visible light usually has a red emission nebula part and next to it a blue reflection nebula part. This IR image from Spitzer shows the Trifid in a new light so to speak.Backyard Astronomer
