Fourlegs, I know you're still worried about Maxx's mouth. I want to share my experience with my kitty, Dan--he's 11, and got a badly infected tooth that was causing real malaise. The vet said he really needed several molars out. I was very worried indeed (I hate the thought of the general anesthetic, for one thing.)
Well, he wasn't going to get any better without the surgery, poor guy; so I bit the bullet, so to speak, and we did it.
On surgery day, I was a nervous wreck--but only for a couple of hours. Nowadays, vets use a very quick-acting anasthetics, and he was waking up within about 20 minutes.
In a nutshell, he's not just fine--he's 110% fine. He's super. He lost 4 molars and doesn't seem to notice; he loves his crunchy food, immediately put on a solid pound, and is now a vision of glossy perfection.
I'm not saying you should do it or not do it, but do know that it can work out very well for human and kitty alike.
Let me just say after that HORRID picture of Denny The Hutt in the exact similar tongue pose, that Maxx wins out all four paws down. You OWED us this pix of Maxx just for posting that pix of Denny. Ugh, what a horrible Hutt of a man he is. Thank heavens for Maxx, tongue and all.

ivytree, if it were infected molars, I'd have them yank them in a second.
He has some sort of infection in his cheek that won't seem to clear up. Plus he's a young kitty, only 2 years old.
At this point I think it bothers me more than it bothers him, but I would like to solve the problem.
cute bastard. i would tongue him if i could. well i'd surely kiss him.
mestizo
He wouldn't let you tongue him.
He barely lets me kiss him on the top of his head.
That little rascal -- tempts us to want to kiss him, but them backs off!
