We all, or most of us Americans , used to sunbathe a lot. Before we started to worry abt skin cancers. Lying out in the hot sun was a good thing, remember?
I have an elderly Russian couple as neighbors. He works shirtless in his garden as early in the year as he can, and sunbathes when not gardening. And they grow enormous tomatoes.
Can you see how people from northern latitudes might love being in hot sun? Being able to grow tomatoes and roses in their own bit of garden is richness to these people. They can tell me this, even without a common language.
