So far so good
The first round of tests came back and so far it looks like it's just an infection. We won't know for sure without a biopsy, but with his history we're going to wait and see how he responds to the antibiotics. No bartonella results until the end of the week.
Many thanks to all of you who sent Mr. Plushy good juju today.

Good that it's "just" an infection, I guess. Praying to the Great God Bast is effective, even tho my Egyptian is pretty rough. She is an understanding sort of deity, as long as one repeats "cat" or "kitten" often.
I feel that darling Maxx caught whatever it is by hanging out with those alien vegetables. He should stick with the Peep minion (protein).
Yay!!! Thank you for the update! Maxx of my heart is going to be fine, I just know it! I shall squeeze each of my meeplets when I return home. I know their juju vibes helped. Incidentally, Gojira the Gray has an abscess on her leg. I'll be spending my evening waiting on her paw-and-paw (and paw-and-paw). Go thou and do likewise with that beloved Lion Kitty of thine.
Best wishes to Maxx - hopefully he'll be back to his usual plushy cuddlemonster self soon.
Thanks everyone, I hope he'll be back to 100% too.
See? What did we say? Now everybody should get a good night's sleep. I know I could use one after (the real) poopyman jumped on the bed yowling at 2:30 this morning. And at 4. And at 5...
I got up the first time to let him out, but he wasn't interested.
Best wishes to Maxx!
Hoo boy. Mr. Plushy is not a happy camper right now. I gave him his medicine while I was trying to give it too him I think he pulled his abcess open- he dripped blood all over me.
He seems to be calm now, though he wants to go outside.
I'm not letting him out while he's mad. I'm afraid he won't come back.
Holy moly, after not eating all day, and after that little dramatic scene, he's in the kitchen having some dinner.
Maybe that's what he needed- to have that abcess drain.
Sheesh. I've been a nervous wreck all day.
So sorry to hear about this. Sending all the good energy I can gather to my grandcat.
*scritch* *scritch*
Here now you just lay down and take a nice nap, Maxxie. Poor baby.
It'll all be better soon. You'll see.
4lg -- draining the abscess prolly did help. The pressure was prolly too painful for him to be able to eat.
Flory, I think you're right. He struggled with me, then went to the door and wanted to go out, then decided he felt like having a snack.
Then he came and jumped in my lap and purrred REALLY LOUDLY for 5 minutes, now he's napping.
It must be a relief. (for me too)
And thanks Mom!!
Maxx ees a tough keety, and SI, help heem drain the abscess eef possible.
Eef joo can irrigate the wound weeth clean water, or water/hydrogen peroxide mixed 50/50 that works well.
Use a turkey baster (or syringe) to get the water inside the wound.
Have lots of paper towels/cotton balls ready, be gentle and not too squeamish.
Good luck, like I said Maxx ees a tough keety, and keeties are tough anyway, so he weel be ok once the infection ees gone.
so.
Oh, my. Poor 4LG. I won't say Poor Maxx because I know Maxx is feeling better just from having that nasty abscess drain. He's purring loudly because you helped him take away the bad, itchy, hot, painful moufball. Good on ya! Even if it was accidental, he's probly thinking, Oh, Thank You, My Human!Or so say my five little Swine In Fur Coats.
Use a turkey baster (or syringe) to get the water inside the wound.
The idea of getting a turkey baster inside his mouth is enough to make me laugh hysterically.
I can tell he's feeling better already- he was napping more comfortably than I've seen him in days.
Oy,oy,oy; I have no internet access over the weekend and come back to find Maxx and fourlegs with much scarier problems than I realized on Friday. Glad to hear mother nature is helping out with the abscess draining. Maybe between that and the antibiotics you will be in good shape (cuz yeah, flushing a mouth wound sounds a bit...challenging). Any chance it was actually an abscessed tooth?
So sorry to hear both of you had such a rough weekend, and I hope you've gotten over the hump here today.
Yes, yes. The abcess needs to drain to heal. Very good.
Use a turkey baster (or syringe) to get the water inside the wound.
Reminds me of a time when my first cat, Sadie, had an abcess on her paw. The vet cleaned it up, then gave me an iodine tincture and told me to soak her paw for 5 minutes every day. (Yes, yes. I know now.)
So after we get home, I set her in my lap and stick the paw in a cup of this stuff. Did I mention I was wearing flimsy shorts and a tee shirt? I was bleeding from my chest AND back for a while.
Never went back to THAT vet.
How's he doing today?
His fan club needs answers....
4LG, the Mr. Plushy The Lion Kitty Maxx Fan Club awaits word on his condition. Poor little love, no wonder he was looking a bit down over the past week. He must've been wondering why his head and face hurt so bad. You say he slept well. That's always a good sign.
