18th Annual Photo Contest

Every year, National Geographic Traveler hosts a photo contest for both amateurs and professionals. The a photo gallery of winning photos can be seen here: 2006 World in Focus Contest. A couple of my favorites are below:

Kenny Chu, Los Angeles, California

Ralph Thompson, Westmount, Quebec

I meant to enter last year, but my schedule kept me from travelling. Maybe this year.

Does Austin, or Texas, have anything beautiful to photographers?

Some of your pics of moonrise in Austin were very fine many months ago.

What may look commonplace to you might be exotic to foreigners. Except the Texas Capitol building, which is extraordinary, but not in a good way.

There are some pretty things here, but not that many visually spectacular things.

I want to do a series of black and whites of the city at night, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I love the meerkat looking back. It's as if s/he was saying, "Are you getting this???" to another meerkat w/a camera. (no, I have not been drinking (yet), why do you ask?)
I would love to do a photo safari in Austin. I need to finally post my New Orleans collection of pics. I also have some from San Fran that I am rather tickled with.

Hey! Those meerkats look like The Whiskers! I'm totally hooked on "Meerkat Manor" - marathons of which will find me stuck to my couch for the whole day.

I think the meerkats are in need of a urinal.

I love meerkats.

After checking out the photo again, I can also appreciate Eli's comment, too. LOL.
