Alex

I don't know if I'm ready, but this little guy still needs a home.

On the other hand, I'm not sure I'll ever get over Maxx. Who knows how long the adoption process will take? Maybe I'll be ready by then.

What do you guys think? He's terribly cute, eh?

Update: I'm going to meet Alex this weekend. When I talked to his foster mom she said hardly anyone has been interested in him.

Maybe he does need me.

He is adorable! It's up to you, of course. Just as long as you let Alex or whomever be themself and not expect a Maxx-like clone, you will bond with the next one. Though, sometimes the departed ones have a way of getting through... Late on the first day of Gris Gris coming home, as I pecked at the keyboard letting her get settled, she did delighfully freak me out w/a behavior just like my recently departed dowager duchess. Toppy (my ex-step-mom named her long before I took her in) would come to me as I puttered on the computer, and gently raise up and pat me on the arm. When Gris Gris did that the same day she came to my place, it quickly cemented the kitteh-love deal and let me know that Toppy approved.
Best of luck on whatever you decide!

He's beautiful! And I love that dark little nose.

Don't rush yourself, 4lg. Besides, I've always thought that pets choose us (especially cats) much more than we choose them. What does this kitty think? Have you been able to spend any time with him?

you will know when it's time - when my doggie died it broke my heart and I couldn't stand it - even going home was hard because she wasn't there. I didn't want to rush in getting another because I thought it was somehow disloyal - as if she could be replaced until a good friend pointed out that there are a lot of animals that need rescuing and I needed someone to give all that love to.

Broken hearts do mend. Not that we forget our beloved dead, but over time we love again, and sometimes lose again.

New pleasures and new pain change our memories of our dead. Maybe that's part of what it means to be human.

Now about this charming furball … have you met him? Of course he's terribly cute. Have you ever seen an ugly cat? Tell us his backstory.

Getting two kittens or young cats is good. They do keep each other company when we are away from home. One lap is big enough for two cats when they are used to sharing since kittenhood.

Gotta love the nose! He's awfully handsome in his own way--which is good because you're not trying to replace Maxx, right? Maxx is irreplaceable, as they all are. And I suspect that when you're ready, Maxx will be cheering you on. Animals are open-hearted, kind souls and altho there's not a doubt that Maxx loved you completely and misses you just as you miss him, I bet he'd probably also think it was fantastic that you wanted to help another homeless kitty, just as you helped him. I don't think there's correct amount of time to wait. It's such an individual thing. You'll know when it's time for you and when it is, there will be a kitty out there (maybe it's Alex) ready to help you--by choosing you. It'll seem like the most natural and unquestionable thing in the world. Thanks for sharing the pix.

He's beautiful, and plush. I say, let Maxx in your heart tell you what to do. Of course, you'll never get over Maxx. He was a very special kittylove. I'm still not over Mephisto, and it's been 20 years. The next one (Faridah) came very quickly into my life, because she needed a home, and I never regretted opening mine to her, though she was the polar opposite of Mephisto, feisty, bitey, crabby, and fiercely independent. Still, we loved each other dearly.
And yes, he is gorgeous.

hikerchick, he's young, and he's a rescue kitty, so he does need a home.

If we hit if off I may get him, and then possibly get a kitten as well to be buddies with him.

jenny, I like his funny little face. And his black tail.

He has "soulful" eyes like Maxx did. that's what's important. You take wonderful pictures that capture the spirit within and this cat is very unusual. The black nose reminds me of something, but I can't quite put my finger on it.

Oh, WOW, now I remember -- there was a wonderful comic character I used to crack up over when I was a child - CALLED MAX. My Dad had two books of the stories of Max -- he was a an adorable chipmunk, I think, who got himself into the goofiest, most impossible scrapes because he was supremely self-confident and never feared a bad outcome. I think his cartoon author was Italian.

Now that's spooky -- this guys nose looks just like Max's did!

I guess I have to vote aye! Somewhere the universe may be approving this coincidence.

Oh, Fourlegs, he's just gorgeous. What wise eyes! And the nose is just too much!

You might also check to see if he responds to his name...(I know, yeah, right, it's a cat...they come when they want to! ;) )
My Gris Gris was named "Miss Jingles" when I first saw her pic - and when I saw her blue-grey coat and white tipped paws and chin in that photo, I knew she was for me, and that I had to at least rescue her from that name!!! Being the New Orleans afficionado that I am, and rather witchy, I opted for calling her "Gris Gris" (grey). She has a middle name, too - Laveau! (it's serious when I use both names! LOL) Now, if I want to tick her off, I call her "Miss Jingles" and she gives me the STINKEYE! ;)
Go check Alex out - you will both know. :)
Blessings!

It just dawned on me that he looks an awful lot like Bandicoot. Okay, a little trimmer in the tummy, but still. The Coot has white pojama pants and a black tail, too. Which means Alex probably has the same sweet Cootish disposition. I like Alex, and am casting my vote for him.

I wanted to answer this earlier in the day, and I'm glad others already made my point:
You're NOT going to get over Maxx, nor the next one, nor the one after that. They're all very individual, and you'll love them all in their own way. Maybe not equally, either.

The question you have to answer is whether you're ready. Or maybe it's not an answer to a question, but a declaration.

Plushy Folks:

Please check out the following link, or google "Max by Giovanetti" -- doesn't the cartoon character's nose look just like the the Plushy Cat's?

http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-25,GGGL:en&q=Max%20by%20Giovanetti&oe=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi

I haven't seen images of this darling Max in years -- the book made be laugh out loud, rolling on the floor, when I was a kid.

Max by Giovanetti - A book was published in 1954 of the cartoon strips. This is the description of Max by one of the reviewers:

Whimsical cartoons about Max, a hamster (I think), - hard to pinpoint character - elf, demon, child, artist, impresario, athlete home du monde.....altogether abnormally normal...a Zeitgeist in reverse..

Oh, that black tail is just the cherry on top for me. Alex is fascinating!

And even though there is no way Maxx could ever be replaced, think how nice it would be to have a puddy at home to remind you every day that you are loved.

Ohhhhhhh, fourlegs! Adopt him adopt him adopt him! Okay, I'm being pushy. Only you know if you're ready. But he is one gorgeous animal, and as you note, nobody's show interest. Maybe he *is* yours. No kitten will ever take the place of Lion Kitty Maxx, but as others have said, Mr. Peep-lovin', fluffy Beautiful will understand and approve.

Good luck, whatever you decide!

Hey, wow, why is he not getting a raft of admirers wanting to spirit his plush little black-tailed booty off to their homes? Is he an older kitty, like over a year or two? I'd take him in a heartbeat if I didn't have five selfish demons to deal with.

Well, sure looks like Alex needs you.

Please let us know how your date goes!

He's the one. And, btw, I NEVER give advice, I'm breaking my rule. He's got the look.

My Gawd...why would no one be interested in him? Clearly, he's been waiting for you!!!
