Guess what, Miss Maddie?

I went to a cat show today and saw three Maine Coon cats like you're going to be when you're grown up. They were beautiful and had bull's eyes and everything. Wish I could've seen you and all your energy. These guys were stuck in cages, not skittering all over the floor like 4Legs says you do.

Spike had the same bullseye markings, so I suppose it's pretty common. To tell the truth, I don't know if I've seen any other Maine Coons in other markings anywhere other than online. Then again that's the marking scheme I really like, so maybe other markings didn't register.

... Another popular theory is that the Maine sprang from the six pet cats which Marie Antoinette sent to Wiscasset, Maine., when she was planning to escape from France during the French Revolution. Most breeders today believe that the breed originated in matings between pre-existing shorthaired domestic cats and overseas longhairs (perhaps Angora types introduced by New England seamen, or longhairs brought to America by the Vikings). Interestingly, the breed closest to the Maine Coon is the Norwegian Forest Cat which, although geographically distant, evolved in much the same climate, and lends credence to the theory that some of the cats responsible for developing the Maine Coon were brought over by the Vikings.

So I guess Tux and Maddie are related! As is Hidey. And Maddie is related to Marie Antoinette?

Related to Marie Antoinette! that explains her "play all day" philosophy.

As for markings, maine coons come in a variety of colors, and in the tabby, both classic (like Maddie) and mackerel.

I prefer the classic tabby, which often comes with the bullseye pattern.
