Something dreadful has happened to my cable and my high speed internet access. No new Maddie pics until tomorrow as a result.

Right now, with the kind permission of my neighbor, I'm using her WIFI. Sadly though, the signal is weak and slow.

Abu Gonzales

The NYTimes is on the right track with this editorial- The Failed Attorney General:

During the hearing on his nomination as attorney general, Alberto Gonzales said he understood the difference between the job he held — President Bush’s in-house lawyer — and the job he wanted, which was to represent all Americans as their chief law enforcement officer and a key defender of the Constitution. Two years later, it is obvious Mr. Gonzales does not have a clue about the difference.

He has never stopped being consigliere to Mr. Bush’s imperial presidency. If anyone, outside Mr. Bush’s rapidly shrinking circle of enablers, still had doubts about that, the events of last week should have erased them.

I have to beg to differ though.

Mr. Gonzales knows perfectly well what the difference is. He just chooses to put his boss' interests above the interests of the American people. In republican circles, what's good for the republican party is what's right for the American people, no exceptions.

I do not believe there is a single republican in high office left who can be trusted to put principle above party interest. Not a one. I'd love to see Abu get the hook, but I don't believe we'll get anyone much better. If they are a bush loyalist, and they will be, they'll be just as bad.

For those of you in Austin, I recommend that you check out the premiere of the film Elvis & Anabelle at South by Southwest this evening.

I've seen the film in previews and it's terrific. 6:30 PM, the Paramount Theatre.

The Sun!!!

Via National Geographic:

March 1, 2007—Twin NASA spacecraft studying the sun have beamed their spectacular first images to Earth, helping scientists to detect and track solar storms that can fry satellites, harm astronauts, and overload power lines.

The panoramic images, released today, were taken by a suite of five telescopes on the Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) spacecraft, which were launched on October 25, 2006.

The pictures provide a closeup view of the sun's activity, such as this snapshot of loops in a magnetically active region that soon afterward produced a series of intense flares (top). The images also provide a progressive view of the sun's radiation all the way to Earth's atmosphere (bottom).

Scientists say this new sweeping viewpoint will let them study the flow of energy from the sun to Earth, especially coronal mass ejections—violent eruptions of electrically charged gas from the sun's atmosphere that can cause dangerous solar storms.

I just love the pretty blue pictures. Okay, the science is way cool too.

I've been trying to get this shot for a while. Still didn't quite get it. When she stretches, she arches her back and curls her tail over her back, almost touching her head.

I've never seen a cat do that before. It's quite silly.
