Ohhhhh!!! NO!!! Oh, FLG and All, I am sooooo terribly sorry to read this. What happened? I hope it was peaceful and painfree for him. I am sending comforting vibes to you (though I am bawling my eyes out). Maxx will rest in the arms of the Goddess (that is, only when Xristi will let her have him!). He was so very loved, by those that actually knew him, and those of us that only knew him electronically.
Bless you for the kindness you showed by taking him in, and for loving him so much and for sharing that with us. I need to get some tissues...I am very, very sad. :(
We love you FLG and send hugs.

I am so, so very sorry, fourlegs. This is horribly, terribly sad.

I'm just glad that you had a chance to spend time with The Best Kitty Ever, and Maxx had a chance to spend time with The Best PlushySlave Ever, I just wish you could have had an awful lot more. At least he's not suffering - I know you hated to see him in pain.

Warm thoughts and condolences, 4lg.

I've never been a "cat person," but the love you and Maxx shared - and still share - has given me a new perspective. If I ever am adopted by a cat (for it surely is not the other way 'round), I hope he/she has the spirit and energy of your beloved Maxx.

Anonymous said...

Heartfelt condolences, 4LG. I know you loved him, and he knew it, too. That's worth millions of valuables (whatever those happen to be, for each of us).

When Mr Deere and I lost our last kitty (krittikas) to death, we cried and sobbed. No one would ever replace her. We have two kitties now, but they are their own selves, equally irreplaceable.

You will never get over your grief for Maxx, but - and this is true - time's passing will make that loss just a little more bearable. Only because you have to accept the loss, and for no other reason.

You have my deepest sympathies, and my fondest thoughts.

I'm so sorry for your loss, 4LG. Nearly all my religous thoughts involve the promise of Heaven for cats, if not for us people; I don't see how they could be denied it, meeting us more than halfway as they do, and loving us more than I can imagine our deserving.

Anonymous said...

Knowing it was coming makes it no easier, I suspect. Far too many of us lately have been where you are, and literally feel your pain. Pain shared is pain lessened, they say, and I hope it's true. Be well.
Oh, and cry. Cry real hard. It helps, trust me. The neighbors will understand. And of they don't, fuckem...

Anonymous said...

I am so sorry. He could not have had a more caring and loving human, and I hope you know it.

Anonymous said...

I'm so sorry, 4lg. He stole my heart over the internets, without ever actually meeting him. You were blessed to have so much plushy goodness around all the time. He's in kitty heaven, in no pain, and he misses you too.

Lion Kitty Maxx is now stalking alien carrots with wild abandon. Condolences to you FLG from Xena kitty and her human.

Anonymous said...

Oh, Four Legs,
You and Maxx lit up a corner of our lives. Your affection and loving care for this furry beast helped him grow a personality and a soul.

This one time stray grew to be the glorious, plushy Lion Kitty Maxx. And you shared his charm with all of us.
Thank you for letting us enjoy your time with Maxx.

Be kind to yourself now, Four Legs, be good to yourself.
Remember that broken hearts do mend, especially for a person who has as many loving friends as you have.

We do love you, too, along with loving the Lion Kitty.
Please let us know how you are doing, when you feel up to posting again.

We are deeply saddened at the home of Zoey, Magoo, and Hidey.

Oh, dear lord. I’m reading your blog at work and trying unsuccessfully not to cry. I’m so sorry about Maxx, so sad that a sweet life has been cut short, so sad that you’re going through this. I’ve been there, as have any number of your readers, and we all know that there’s nothing we can do or say to make you feel better right now. It hurts. It hurts like hell. Just know that Maxx touched many, many hearts and those of us whose days were made better by seeing his fuzzy face on our computer screens are grateful to you for sharing him with us. He is lucky to have had such a caring human companion in you, and vice versa. He's romping in meadows at the Rainbow Bridge, waiting to see you again.

If It Should Be

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should wake me from my sleep,
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle can’t be won.
You will be sad, I understand,
Don’ let your grief then stay your hand,
For this day more than all the rest
Your love and friendship stand the test.
We’ve had so many happy years,
What is to come will hold no fears,
You’ll not want me to suffer, so,
When the time comes, please let me go.
I know in time you too will see
It is a kindness you do to me,
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I’ve been saved.
Do not grieve that it should be you
Who has to decide this thing to do,
We’ve been so close, we two, these years,
Don’t let your heart hold any tears.

SORROW

Why does the thin grey strand
Floating up from the forgotten
Cigarette between my fingers,
Why does it trouble me?

Ah, you will understand;
When I carried my mother downstairs,
A few times only, at the beginning
Of her soft-foot malady,

I should find, for a reprimand
To my gaiety, a few long grey hairs
On the breast of my coat; and one by one
I watched them float up the dark chimney.

--D.H. Lawrence

You were such a loving caretaker to this cat. And I see in here that there are many friends sending you love. And I hope you have some warm arms there to hold you, a shoulder to cry on. Peace.

Damn, damn, damn, 4lg. I'm so very sorry.

I have no doubts at all that my gang of beloved feline elderlies who have gone on before me have already met up with Maxx and have shown him all the good sunny sleeping spots, the best tuna ponds, and have even shared some of their favorite sparkle balls.

Maxx is defintely a soul worth grieving, but I know that he'll be waiting for you when the time comes, and what a reunion that will be.

Sending hugs.

I am crying, and Ganesh Bengal Cat and Scampers are anxiously trying to comfort me. I think they are telling me that Lion Kitty Maxx is safe with their sisters Meena and Kerani, romping again, and beautiful forever.

You have my heartfelt sympathies, as well, 4LG. Maxx is quite a beautiful creature and the Goddess will take great care of such a fine plushy pal. It's quite sad but enjoy the memories of a wonderful friend. And don't wait too long for a new kitty. I made the mistake of waiting years after my kids passed away (Josh age:20 Maybelline age:18). As soon as I got my new kids (one of them looks an awful lot like Maxx) I wondered what the heck I had waited for. Nothing is more comforting than a kitty!

So, so sorry. My Norton succumbed to the same exact kind of tumor. I'll tell you what the vet told me: you gave him a good, happy life and made his end as painless as it could be. You were the best human companion he could find.

We're here for you - now and always - just as you were there for Maxx.

I was awfully drunk a few weeks back when I posted about goodbyes.
The pain of loss of love never goes away, it fades as slowly as it builds, this love we find in life.
So, your love, your testament to your kitty brings tears to all who shared with you in plush times, nurse times and now.
There prolly is no greater love story on the nets, at least for this animal lover.

hang in there.

4LG, I'm so sorry for your loss. (Tried to post a couple of times earlier but Blogger wasn't cooperating. )

You were obviously an incredibly loving and conscientious caretaker for beautiful Maxx. If, and when, you are ever ready to share your life with another critter, you will no doubt bring as much grace to that effort and whatever critter it is will be lucky to have you.

I realize it's trite, a cliche, but it's nonetheless true, that Maxx isn't in pain anymore. He's not held captive in an ailing and tired body any longer. He's free and his plushy spirit will always be with you.

thanks so much for sharing him with all of us.

peace to you.
